  • Form: Juncus flavidus, or Yellow Rush, is a tufted perennial rush spreading from underground stems
  • Foliage: Leaves reduced to loose basal sheaths to 30cm long, reddish-brown to dark brown towards the base
  • Flowers: Flowers scattered or clustered; 3-6 stamens. Main bract continues above flowers for 30cm. Capsules straw-coloured with golden-brown tip, shorter than or equal to flowers.
  • Fruit: Capsule shorter than to occasionally longer than outer tepals, ellipsoid, obtuse, not or scarcely apiculate, golden brown
  • Habitat: Swamps and stream banks in areas of higher rainfall
  • Distinctive Features: Erect dull yellow-green to blue-green stems to 5.5mm diameter with crowded barely raised ridges.
  • Similar species: Distinguished from Baumea articulata by the flat, ribbon-like leaves.
  • Comments: The most widespread native Cyperus in Victoria particularly in the South, yet now considered rare on the volcanic plains
