Form: E. acuta is a spreading perennial semi-aquatic sedge, with flowering stems to 60cm tall
Foliage: Foliage on the Spike-Sedge is reduced to a small tip on a sheath around the flowering stems
Flowers: Flowers are small brown and bract-like, grouped in 3cm cylindrical clusters at the end of the flowering stems, flowering from Spring-Summer
Fruit: The fruit is a shining, yellow to dark brown nut, 1-1.7mm with bristles at base
Habitat: This is an extremely widespread species that likes wet habitats across Australia Distinctive Features Eleocharis acuta has a small tip at the end of the foliage tube
Similar Species: Eleocharis plana has flattened flowering stems, and is restricted to Tallangatta in NE Victoria
Comments: Useful wetland revegetation species that is easy to propagate
